Custom domains: Go live in three easy steps

What happens when your Streamline site goes live?

If you're using a custom domain, the process of pointing it to your new Streamline site will usually take only a few minutes, but it may take up to 48-72 hours for the changes to make their way across the internet. Wait until we give you the official go-ahead before you let the world know :)

On your go live date, here's what will happen:

1. Your domain settings will be updated

Don't worry, this step sounds more technical than it is :) We will (if we haven't already) send you some information labaled as "DNS information". You, or whoever manages your domain, will need to log in to your domain registrar account and use the information we send to make a small update to your domain's DNS settings.

Don't have your DNS information? Send us an email! >

Exactly how this is done depends on your specific registrar (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Bluehost, etc), but nearly all of them have tutorials to assist, and of course, we're more than happy to help!

Once the settings are updated, it takes some time for the DNS changes to propagate throughout the internet. Expect that it may take between 48-72 hours before your site is live and loading secure across the Internet.

2. Streamline will issue your security certificate

On your behalf, we will issue your SSL certificates to make sure your site traffic is securely loading over HTTPS. Until this happens, you may experience the occasional security warnings. Don't worry, your computer is not at risk!

3. Notify the world!

At this point, your site should have all the content it needs, your site will have a functioning domain (that is loading securely). Guess what? That means you're officially live to the world!

Further, to increase your site's visibility, Streamline will submit your site map to the major search engines so they can crawl through your great content and make it more available to the public via search. You can learn how to speed up this process here.

Before you tell everyone to visit your new site...

We will send you a congratulatory message and make sure we appreciate you for all of your hard work. That is the time to spread the message to your stakeholders that the site is ready to be seen and shared with the world. :) Congratulations!
