PDF Error - Document does not define the dc:Title metedata attribute
PDF Accessibility | Document doesn't have a title
Last updated: September 2025
Issue: Document does not define the dc:Title metedata attribute
Meaning: The document title has not been set in the metadata, meaning there is no title associated with the document in the backend under "document properties" which helps provide descriptive information about a document.
Fix: Set the document’s metadata title (dc:Title) in the document properties. This value is different from the file name—the file name is how the document is labeled in storage (e.g., “Agenda_Sept2025.pdf”), while the metadata title is descriptive information embedded within the document itself (e.g., “Board Meeting Agenda – September 2025”).
To resolve this issue:
- Open the document properties in your editor or PDF tool.
- Locate the Title field.
- Enter a clear, descriptive title that reflects the content of the document.
- Save and re-export if necessary to ensure the metadata is updated.
